Holly Johnson
Holly Johnson is a British singer, songwriter and visual artist from Liverpool. His unmistakable voice brought worldwide attention to Frankie Goes to Hollywood in the 1980s, before he embarked on a successful solo career.
From Liverpool to international success
Born in Liverpool in 1960, Holly was part of the city’s late-1970s music scene and played with Big in Japan. As frontman of Frankie Goes to Hollywood, he became associated with a remarkable run of pop singles including Relax, Two Tribes and The Power of Love.
Solo career
His 1989 solo debut Blast reached number one on the UK albums chart and featured Love Train and Americanos. Later albums include Dreams That Money Can’t Buy, Soulstream and Europa.
Beyond the music
Holly is also a painter and writer. His autobiography, A Bone in My Flute, was published in 1994. His visual art and music have remained closely connected throughout his career.
